Interstate-Guide: Business Route 84

AS Route 84 ( US 84 ) is the west-east US Highway. It started as a short Georgia-Alabama route in its original 1926 scheme, but in 1941 it was extended to Colorado. The east side of the terminal is a short distance east of Midway, Georgia, at the intersection of Interstate 95. The road continues towards the nearby Atlantic Ocean as a county road. The western tip is in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, at the intersection with US 160.

Part of Brunswick, Georgia to Roscoe, Texas has been established by five state legislatures as part of El Camino East/West Corridor. This appointment is in recognition of its history as a migration route from the Atlantic coast to the current Mexican-American border, one of the routes that the Spanish settlers called the El Camino Real. (In Louisiana, the route is called Harrisonburg Road.) This appointment is intended to promote routes for tourism and trade facilitated by NAFTA with Mexico. The state requested federal funds to expand US 84 East El Camino/Western Corridor.

Route description

Colorado

The $ 84 western terminus, Pagosa Springs, Colorado, was made famous by C. W. McCall in 1975 Wolf Creek Pass songs and albums. US $ 84 actually ends about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of downtown Pagosa Springs on T-intersection with US $ 160 (Main Street).

Texas

There are plans to extend the US-84 corridor to four lines elsewhere in Alabama but because the funding issues of these projects are in various stages of development. One of these stretches lies east of Opp, where construction begins on four lanes eastwards to Elba but stalled due to funding.

US-84 has a brief stretch along with other US Highway in Alabama. US-84 share routes with US-31 from just southwest Evergreen to several miles east of the city. It briefly shares the route with US 29 in the city of Andalusia. It also shares routes with US-331 near Opp. In Dothan, US-84 shares concurrency with US-231 and US-431 at Ross Clark Circle which is a bypass of city center circles.

US-84 crossing three main navigable waterways in Alabama. They are the Tombigbee River in Coffeeville, the Alabama River in Claiborne, and the Chattahoochee River in the state line of Alabama-Georgia. US-84 passes Enterprise very close to the large military facility Fort Rucker which is a training school of US Army helicopters. Most of the US-84 in Alabama traverses the relatively lowland Gulf Coast Plain with some sand content. This area is very agricultural with a bit of heavy industry. Dothan is the largest city in Alabama traversed by US-84 and is Southeast Alabama's business and agricultural center. This area is usually referred to as the Wiregrass Region.

Georgia

Upon entering Georgia from Alabama to the west of Jakin, Georgia, the route traveling through the southern part of the country, meets the east terminal on Interstate 95 east of Midway. In Valdosta, Route 221 US departs, and US Route 84 continues east-northeast to Waycross, where it is briefly tagged with the U.S. Route. 1, 23, and 82. The US Route 84 continues northeast from Waycross, past the Blackshear before arriving at Jesup. In Jesup, the route becomes compiled with the U.S. Route. 25 and 301 northeast to Ludowici. In Hinesville, the route becomes structured with State Route 196 and takes a drastic twist to the east. Short distances, State Route 196 depart, and US Route 84 (as well as Route 38) continue east to its eastern terminal at exit 76 on Interstate 95 east of Midway.

History

When originally designated in 1926, US $ 84 was a much shorter route that included 281 miles (452 ​​miles) from Dothan, Alabama to Brunswick, Georgia.
