Zuccotti Park

The company is the owner of Zucotti Park, a publicly accessible park adjacent to one of his office buildings near Wall Street in Manhattan, New York City, which in September 2011 became a scene of protest by Occupy Wall Street. On October 11, 2011, Richard Clark, CEO of the company, sent a letter to NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly asking to "cleanse the park" for use by Occupy Wall Street "against the law, violate the rules of the Park, remove the community's rights to enjoy the quiet of the Park , and create public health and safety issues ". The request was later withdrawn. On November 15, 2011, at about 1:00 am, NYPD came in and cleaned the park on the grounds of the health and safety hazards posed by the demonstrators. Later that morning, Judge Lucy Billings issued a court order for the NYPD to allow the demonstrators to return to the park. The order was later appointed by the Supreme Court of NY and police were allowed to keep the parks cleared of tents at the request of Brookfield Properties.
