Histori
It was founded in 1842 by Frederick Schaefer's brother (1817-1897) and Maximilian Karl Emil Schaefer (1819-1904), native of Wetzlar, Prussia, Germany.
Frederick emigrated to the United States in 1838, followed by Maximilian in 1839. Maximilian brought a lager beer recipe with him. After working for them, they saved enough money to buy Sebastion Somers Brewing Company. How it is managed, and what brewing experience couples bring from Germany, is unclear. What they brought in was a lager beer recipe, supposedly brewing one of the first, cold, cold, cold American beers in 1848, which was later claimed to be the first in the United States, even though John Wagner of Philadelphia preceded it in 1840.
In time the operation proved very successful, climbing to slot number six among American brewers in 1871.
Max Rudolph's son Jay Schaefer took over as president until his death in 1923.
The company has a large brewery complex on Park Avenue in New York City and caves because its beer is left along the East River. At the beginning of the 20th century, he sold valuable estate real estate and opened a new brewery in Brooklyn.
In the 1950s and again in the 1970s Schaefer was the number five beer in America.
As it grew, he bought several regional factories, including those in Albany, New York, Cleveland, Ohio, and Baltimore, Maryland. A $ 106 million public share offering was held in 1968, with F & amp; M. Schaefer Corporation emerged as a holding company for its production subsidiary, Schaefer Brewing Company . Pursuing greater efficiency, he built a large and tall factory in Allentown, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley, which opened in 1972 and resulted in the closure of the remaining satellite factories. In 1974 it expanded from its original capacity of 1,100,000 barrels per year to 2,500,000 and then, in 1975, it expanded again to 5,000,000 barrels plus.
In 1981 Schaefer was acquired by Stroh Brewing Company which, in turn, was acquired by Pabst Brewing Company in 1999.

Legacy
Schaefer continues today as a virtual beer produced as a Pabst label. The corporate conservation community, Tim Schaefer, is based in Long Beach, California. F. & amp; M. Schaefer Brewing Company is not associated with Engels and Schaefer Brewing Company from Cedarburg, Wisconsin.
The Lehigh Valley Schaefer brewing facility is then sold to Diageo North America, Inc. and used for the production of Smirnoff Ice malt beverages. In 2008, the Boston Beer Company, known for its Samuel Adams brand, bought a brewery from Diageo.
Sponsors
The company sponsored the Schaefer Music Festival at Wollman Skating Rink in Central Park New York City from 1968-1976, hosting several major names in popular music.
At one point in the 1970s and into the mid-80s, Schaefer had the naming rights for Schaefer Stadium, home to the New England Patriots. The name was changed to Sullivan Stadium in the mid-1980s when Schaefer did not renew his contract.
The company also sponsors a long-term television program of the first quality films, titled "Theater Awards" (also known as "Schaefer Award Theater"). The series presents films with only four commercial glitches. In New York City, the program runs several times a year on WCBS-TV until the late 50s and early 60s.
