The McIntire Investment Institute (MII) is a fully managed student equity fund, long/short with more than $ 800,000 in managed assets (AUM) at the University of Virginia. Founded in 1994 by an endowment founded by John Griffin's "Tiger Cub" from Blue Ridge Capital, the Institute operates as a non-profit organization under the McIntire Foundation. The McIntire Investment Institute is the premier and largest undergraduate investment club at the University of Virginia.

Histori

The McIntire Investment Institute was first conceived by McIntire alumnus John Griffin (COMM, '85 and President, Blue Ridge Capital). Mr. Griffin donated $ 1,000,000 to the University in 1993; $ 575,000 is allocated to student-managed investment organizations. The first $ 100,000 was available to students in October 1994, and an additional $ 200,000 was allocated to funds in 2000. Since then, the Institute has donated $ 150,000 of profits, including $ 75,000 in April 2006 to the new McIntire building on Grass.

Organization

MII investment decisions are fully driven by students. The Institute membership currently consists of 9 members of the executive board, about 20-25 employees, and about 70-80 analysts. The portfolio team consists of portfolio managers, partners, and 3-4 analysts. Throughout the semester, each portfolio team will work to generate a pitch of long-term or short-term investments.
