Histori
In 1965, many Israeli phone numbers had 6 digits, but some had 5, according to Tel Aviv's telephone directory. There were ten area codes at that time: 02 Jerusalem, Bet Shemesh; 03 Tel Aviv, Petah Tikva, Rehovot, Ashdod; 04 Haifa and western Galilee; 051 Ashkelon; 053 Netanya; 057 Beersheva and most of the Negev; 059 Eilat; 065 Afula, Nazareth; 063 Hadera, Zichron Yaakov; and 067 Tiberias, Zefat and eastern Galilee.
Most recently in the 1990s, most Israeli phone numbers had 6 digits (no area code digits). There are currently 5 geo area codes and 2 non-geographic area codes, and numbers have 7 or 8 digits (no area code digits).
With the influence of VoIP remotely regulated in Israel. According to the Israeli Communications Department, VoIP numbers can be transferred to ground operators and vice versa provides an option to have, say, the northern number in the southern part of the country. Numbers can not be ported, say, from north to south of the country on the same line type (e.g. VoIP to VoIP or landline to landline). Portability of mobile numbers was introduced at the end of 2007.

Structure and format
The format for calls to home phones within the same area code is XXX-XXXX (7 digit customer ID). For calls to landline phones outside the local area, the area code begins and the format becomes (0A) XXX-XXXX for calls to home phones, where "0A" is the area code.
The format for calls to cellular phones is 05N-XXX-XXXX, where "05N" is an indicator of the mobile operator. The format for calls to VoIP channels is 07N-XXX-XXXX, where "07N" is an indicator of VoIP carrier.
When calling from outside Israel, the "0" in the area code is not played, and the format is 972-A-XXX-XXXX for calls to home phones, 972-5N-XXX-XXXX for calls to cellular channels, 972-7N-XXX- XXXX for calls to VoIP channels.

When making a call in one of the geo area codes (2, 3, 4, 8, 9) the prefix can be dropped (so instead of calling (0A) XXX-XXXX you can call XXX-XXXX).

Mobile and mobile device area code 05

Kosher Number
Cell phones and kosher networks are basically phones with Haredi rabbi approval that can be used for communication without entertainment or connectivity functionality. This is a line that has pre-defined and blocked prefixes for content that Haredi activists feel is not appropriate for their community. These blocks include mobile internet access, chat rooms, SMS, etc. It should not be taken into account that other phones are not lawful according to Jewish law, as evidenced by the fact that an enormous amount - if not a majority - of devout Orthodox Jews around the world does not limit itself to "halal" phones; not a "halal" phone description is a loose one, implying an additional level of thoroughness received by some communities.
Companies that provide "halal numbers" are allocated an exclusive range for the lines, which are:
972 (A) 80 X-XXXX - Bezeq (When A = 2,3,4,8,9)  972 50 41 X-XXXX - Pelephone  972 52 71 X-XXXX - Cellcom, second range  972 52 76 X-XXXX - Cellcom, first range  972 53 31 X-XXXX - Hot Mobile  972 54 84 X-XXXX - Associate, first range  972 54 85 X-XXXX - Partners, second range  972 58 32 X-XXXX - Golan Telecom  972 55 67 X-XXXX - Rami Levy  972 55 71 X-XXXX - Cellact  972 55 98 X-XXXX - 019 Telzar  972 72 29 X-XXXX - Partners (012smile)  972 73 724 -XXXX - Veidan
