Stacy Erwin Oakes (born May 19, 1973) is a politician from the US state of Michigan. He has been a member of the Democratic Party of Michigan House of Representatives and Minority Whip representing Michigan's 95th District (map), located in Saginaw County, covering the cities of Saginaw and Zilwaukee, in addition to the following cities: Bridgeport Township, Buena Vista Township, Carrollton Township, James Township, Kochville Town, Township Spaulding, and Zilwaukee City.

A product from the Saginaw Public School District, Oakes attended Houghton Elementary School, Arthur Eddy Junior High, and Saginaw Secondary School where he graduated in 1991. He obtained a degree in criminal justice from Ferris State University and later earned his teaching certificate while working as a corrective officer at Saginaw Penitentiary.
Oakes earned a law degree from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University while working for the Michigan Civil Rights Department. While at MSU, he is an instructor for Rental Housing Clinics.

After obtaining his teaching certificate, he accepted a position with Saginaw Public School system and taught at Middle School and Saginaw while training women's basketball.
After graduating from law school, Oakes received a position with Michigan House of Representatives as a policy analyst. He was then appointed to the Michigan Attorney's office, serving under both Jennifer Granholm and Mike Cox. As an assistant attorney general, he sued and defended cases throughout the state of Michigan. In February 2010, Oakes was appointed to the MSU College of Law Law Supervisory Board. Currently, Oakes serves as the main developer of Erwin Properties, LLC, which develops Erwin Senior Estates in Buena Vista Township.
Political career
Oakes was elected as State Representative for the 95th District in a special election in November 2010 to fill the remaining timeframe for seats vacated by Andy Coulouris. Under Michigan's legislative term limits, Coulouris qualifies for one additional term as Country Representative. As opposed to running for re-election in 2010, Coulouris even announced that he would not seek a third term.
With the departure of his predecessor Oakes and the subsequent election to the Michigan Representative Council, he served in the legislature for a paralyzed duck session of 2010. In that election he won his own term that began in January 2011.
In December 2011, Oakes appeared as a guest on the Off the Record (WKAR TV series) , a weekly statewide political chat program in PBS member stations across Michigan. Off The Record was hosted by Capitol Michigan senior correspondent Tim Skubick. Discussion topics include Michigan Medical Cannabis law and future political ambitions of Oakes.
Oakes sits on the House Farm Committee and House Judiciary Committee. In addition, he also sits in the Michigan Legislative Council. He ran for second term as State Representative for the 95th district in the November 2012 election. In August 2012, Oakes was appointed to fill vacancies in the House Transportation Committee.
In February 2012, it was announced that Rep. Oakes will become a member of Obama for the American Truth Team. The Truth Team intends to secure grassroots and online supporters to promote the achievement of President Barack Obama while asking Republican to be responsible.
On November 6, 2012, Rep. Oakes was re-elected for a second term, defeating his opponent with 77.53% of the vote.
Oakes failed on the 32nd district senate seat in Michigan in 2014, but was defeated by now-Senator Ken Horn (R-Frankenmuth).
Post political career
Oakes was appointed by Flint Mayor Karen Weaver as Flint's chief law officer in the city in April 2016. In accepting the job, he said that playing an important role in the Flint saga is important to him because everything depends on how he and his team approach the legal challenge ahead. Mayor Weaver praised Oakes for his ability: "Stacy is upheld by the legal community." In a statement dated January 3, 2017, Mayor Weaver's office confirmed that the city had "split" with City Attorney Oakes but did not provide any additional details, According to the termination letter, Weaver questioned leadership Oakes and his ability to lead the department: "The effectiveness of your management and oversight from the City of Flint Legal Department is questionable and I lack confidence in your leadership." On April 3, 2017, Oakes had filed a complainant suit against Weaver and the city of Flint, accusing him of being fanned because objected to "false legal documents" and other illegal acts.
Personal life
Oakes representative is the daughter of James and Maggie Erwin. She is the youngest of six sisters and six brothers. Oakes and her husband, lawyer Michael Oakes, have two children, Michael II and Kingston. They worship at New Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Saginaw.
