In the late 1960s, Reiner acted in small roles on several television shows including Batman The Andy Griffith Show , Room 222 , Gomer Pyle, USMC and The Beverly Hillbillies . He began his writing career for the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1968 and 1969. Two years later, Reiner became famous for playing Michael Stivic, the liberal man-in-law of Archie Bunker, on the 1970s sitcom Norman Lear < i> All in the Family , which is the most watched television program in the United States for five seasons (1971-1976). The character's nickname became closely related to him, even after he left the role and proceeded to build a high profile career as a director. Reiner has stated, "I can win the Nobel Prize and they will write 'Meathead won the Nobel Prize'." For her performance, Reiner won two Emmy Awards in addition to three other nominations and five Golden Globe nominations. After being absent, Reiner recently returned to acting with a recurring role on New Girl (2012-present).

In 1972, Reiner, Phil Mishkin, and Gerry Isenberg created The Super ABC sitcom for ABC. Starring Richard S. Castellano, the show depicts the despairing life of a desperate Italian American inspector from an apartment building in New York City and ran for 10 episodes in the summer of 1972. Reiner and Mishkin co-wrote the first episode.

Beginning in the 1980s, Reiner was known as the director of several successful Hollywood movies that spanned many different genres. Some of these movies remain very popular among fans and critics. Some previous films include classic cults such as rock-band mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (1984) and the comedy fantasy film The Princess Bride (1987), as well as a piece of the period coming from the story age Stand by Me (1986), which is also highly recognized. He often collaborated with film editor Robert Leighton, whom he also shared with fellow-director Christopher Guest as their go-to editor.

Reiner has directed other commercially successful and critical films with his own company, Castle Rock Entertainment. Politics and activism

Reiner has devoted considerable time and energy to liberal activism in recent years. His hobbyist as an anti-smoking supporter, in particular, encouraged his resemblance to use in a satirical role in the South Park episode titled "Butt Out".

Reiner is one of the founders of the American Foundation for Equal Rights, who initiated a court challenge against California Proposition 8 that prohibits same-sex marriage in the state.

In 1998, Reiner led a campaign to pass the Prop 10, California Children and Families Initiative, which created First 5 California, an early childhood development services program, funded by taxes on tobacco products. He served as the first chairman of First 5 California, from 1999 to 2006. Reiner was criticized for campaigning a ballot (Prop 82) to finance a state-run preschool school while still chairing the First Five Commission, causing him to resign from his position on 29 March 2006. The audit was conducted, and it was concluded that the state commission did not violate state law and had a clear legal authority to conduct public advertising campaigns related to preschool. Ultimately, Prop 82 failed to win approval, collecting just 39.1% of support.

Reiner is a member of the Social Responsibility Task Force, an organization advocating moderation where social issues (such as violence and tobacco use) and the entertainment industry meet. He is also active in environmental issues, and he successfully led efforts to establish California's Ahmanson Ranch as a state park and wildlife refuge rather than as the development of commercial real estate. He introduced the Spinal Tap at the London Live Earth concert in July 2007.

Reiner was named as a possible candidate to fight California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006 but decided not to run for personal reasons. He campaigned extensively for Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore in the 2000 presidential election, and he campaigned in Iowa for Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean just before the 2004 Iowa caucus. He supported Hillary Clinton for presidential elections in 2008. In 2015, he donated US $ 10,000 for Correct the Record, a political action committee that supports Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign. Since the 2016 election, he has continued campaigning against Donald Trump, calling him racist, sexist, anti-gay, and anti-Semitic, and comparing him to the Nazi police at Auschwitz.

Reiner serves on the Advisory Board of the Committee to Investigate Russia.
