Grassmarks (also known as page sign , bandit signs , placards , and road signs , among other names) are small advertising signs that may be placed on a page facing the street or elsewhere on a property to declare support for the election candidate, or political position, by the property owner (or sometimes to promoting business). They are popular in political campaigns in the United States and Canada.

Placements
Signs are often placed near polling stations on election day, although in most jurisdictions, there are legal restrictions for campaigning within a certain range of voting facilities. In most states, there are also restrictions on where these signs can be placed. There are several residential areas that have procedures for prohibiting the posting of page alerts.
The signs are usually placed close to the road for greater visibility. On most highways a sign may not be installed so that part of the sign facing the nearest highway is within five feet of the right line of the highway.
Signs come in different shapes and sizes, but are most often rectangular and between 12 and 40 inches on each side. They are usually produced in packages that include grass marking cables because most of the signs of these grasses need to be placed on grass or ground level.

Type
H-frame
The common type of page mark frame is "H-frame". The wire framework usually has at least two tines that can be inserted into the flute of a corrugated plastic plaque. Tines at the end of the frame can be put into the ground. A single or double bar between two tines adds strength and makes the entire frame a single unit. It also prevents face marks from sliding down the tines.
I-frame
I-frame is basically a H-frame without a crossbar that connects two legs. Each leg may have a buffer that serves as a stopper to prevent it from sliding down.
Importance
Political scientist Mel Kahn stated that the signs of grass helped build a name recognition for the candidate. Supposedly, each sign represents 6-10 votes for the candidate. However, veteran political organizers hate the task of giving out page signs, because they believe that time spent on procuring and distributing page signs could be better used on other voter registrations and out of voting operations. One randomized field trial finding the signs of the yard only reminding people to vote can significantly increase overall voter turnout.
In addition, it provides a placebo effect to the applicant doing something substantive, while not actually volunteering to help their candidate. Critics allege that "grass marks do not vote" and ignore their interests. Theft of grass marks is treated like another example of petty theft, however, the signs of street rights in many countries are considered garbage and can be taken by anyone as a public service. On some occasions, residents who remove signs for cleaning up the mess and eliminating the interference of motorists are caught, sparking public controversy.
The Wall Street Journal reports on a new page mark type designed to increase effectiveness by cutting into shapes or people to convey political messages. This article shows that such signs can expose 25,000 drivers per day to messages at low cost.
