Henry Moskowitz (1905 - 7 September 2008) is a New York-based real estate investor and founder of the real estate management company The Argo Corporation. He also established Prima hotel chain in Israel.

Biography

Moskowitz was born to a Jewish family in Kielce, Poland. He lost his first wife, daughter, two parents, and a brother in the Holocaust. In December 1944, he was detained in the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. In 1948, he remarried in Germany with his second wife, Rose. They have two children in Germany, Sonia and Jacob. In 1951, the family immigrated to the United States, settled on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and had two more children: Dan and Mark. In 1952, collecting assets of over 100 investors, many of whom survived the Holocaust, he founded The Argo Corporation and began investing in real estate in New York City. The initial investment of the partnership is all rent and Argo is employed by the partnership to manage it. In 1955, he bought the Ivy Hill Park Apartment complex in the Ivy Hill neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey; the complex consists of ten tall buildings and is the largest private apartment complex in New Jersey. Argo eventually transformed most of its buildings in Manhattan into a cooperative ownership during the 1960s and 1970s that generally retained subsequent management contracts. In the 1980s, they evolved into third-party building management. In 1997, he converted his first condo. He also established Prima hotel chain in Israel.

He expanded his business to become one of New York City's largest independent real estate management companies. In 2013, Argo has 5,500 units and manages 6,500 units on behalf of condominiums and cooperatives. In addition to the management and conversion of rental buildings to cooperatives and condominiums, Argo continues to invest in building ownership and will also buy unsold units in buildings for rent. His son, Mark Moskowitz is now running the company. Moskowitz is known for not selling any of its buildings.

In 2008, the Broadway Angel Association dedicated Henry Moskowitz North Mall in his honor. Moskowitz is a strong supporter of Israel. In 2010, Square of Hope at the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations at Yad Vashem was dedicated in his honor. He is also a supporter of the Givat Haviva Educational Institute in Israel and the Shoah Shoa Foundation Institute for History and Visual Education. In 1998, he was recognized by former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Foreign Jubilee Investor Award. Despite being raised by Hassidic, after World War II, he practiced Modern Orthodox Judaism.
